Sweet news, Park Slope

An Open Letter to the Sweet-Toothed People of Park Slope:
You’re getting a Leske’s Bakery —right in your neighborhood, right on Fifth Avenue.

What’s Leske’s? It’s a Brooklyn institution—a legendary Scandanavian bakery that also offers the very best modern fare, all made with the freshest ingredients available. It’s where you’ll find traditional Kransekake, a wedding cake made of ground almonds and sugar, unparalleled Danish, and flavorful limpa bread. And don’t miss the Kringle (a large Danish made with juicy raisins and ground almonds), or a Wales Kringle— puff pastry, whipped cream and custard with a vanilla or chocolate glaze.

You’ll also find new favorites: Leske’s Twinkies and Hostess inspired Cupcakes, regular cupcakes, over stuffed cream and jelly donuts plus Brooklyn’s best black-and-white cookies topped with copious amounts vanilla and chocolate fudge, renowned seven-layer cookies (the middle layer is chocolate cake), carrot cake with pineapple filling—and much more.

All you need to know is: Leske’s is good, a little bit different, very Scandinavian and totally New York.

Located at 588 5th Avenue, the new Leske’s location means you don’t have to trek to Bay Ridge when a sweet craving hits.

Stop by and say hi—and see why Leske’s has been a Brooklyn institution since 1961.

See you on February 12!

Holiday stories.. that involve Leske's are as numerous as the reports that some families celebrated birthday's of the children year after year with the same cake from Leske's. Our head cake baker, has been doing this for 25 years here. This means that cake you bought 5 years ago, or 10 or 20 years ago, is still being made the same way today.

There is Chocolate cake and Vanilla cake and a wild number of fillings and toppings from hard icing to pudding and marzipan. Looking for something interesting? Try a Chocolate or Vanilla cake with Chocolate pudding filling and fresh banana filling topped with fresh whipped cream or butter cream frosting!

Leske's is famous for our B&W Cookie, and using a slightly modified recipe we can make them as big as 18 inches. Covered in real vanilla and chocolate fudge, this is a real treat (tasty for both your eyes and belly!).

Leske's is a Scandinavian or Nordic Bakery. Originally called Leske's Danish Bakery, we make a number of treats with a Nordic heritage. First among those, for the holidays or for weddings is the Kransekake. Made of ground almond and sugar, it's tender and tasty!

Free Cookies?

We have been told by many of our long term customers, some who first came to Leske's as children (and now bring their own children here) that they remember Ella Leske, Hans Leske's wife would always offer a free cookie to them when ever they visited the bakery.

The new management team is also in love with cookies. Before we had a ribbon opening we had a B&W Cookie "breaking" and we passed out free cookies to everyone in line on opening day (along with bottles of water!).

So, it didn't take us long to decide that free cookies for kids was a Leske's tradition that needs be continued. Every pre-adult who enters should be offered a cookie by one of the counter staff. If you visit Leske's with your children or grand-children and they don't get offered a cookie, please let us know LeskesBrooklyn@gmail.com

We have also learned that this isn't an urban myth or a tall tale from those simply seeking a free cookie; we had a visit from some Leske family members who confirmed that Ella always offer all the children a free cookie. Playmates of Ella's grand daughter always make sure when they came to visit that they entered the house through the bakery so as to not miss out on their cookie.

Leske's Closer to Opening

Leske's Bakery is going to open again on August 8th @ 11:30am with a cookie breaking and ribbon cutting.

There has been a huge amount of work done here from a new roof to 3 new ovens; while the ovens where among the first item to be installed, we had a host of problems with them. While slated to be first fired around July 20th, they have still (YET) to be fired.

With a crew working through the weekend we have factory techs coming in this Sunday to (hopefully) fire up the ovens. The earlier they get fired the more treats and goodies we will have at the opening.

We are really committed to offering the same great products that have been a Brooklyn tradition since 1961. That means taking our time with everything. Please follow us on Facebook LeskesBakery to learn which items we will have on opening day. Cookies and Kringle are top of mind but we expect to have many many others.
